The Braves swept the Dodgers over the weekend, beating them 6-1, 4-1, and 6-1. The pitching staff has given up three runs over the last four games. The starting pitching was very good, giving up 2 runs in 16 2/3 innings, but the bullpen was even better, giving up1 run in 10 1/3 innings. Chipper Jones had 6 hits in the series but left Sunday's game with a strained quad. Gregor Blanco started all three games in left field (replacing Matt Diaz) and had 5 hits in the series. The Braves have a two-game series with Washington starting Monday. Tim Hudson and John Smoltz are scheduled to pitch the two games.
The Ball State baseball team had a disappointing weekend as they were swept by Central Michigan, 7-3, 8-6, and 5-4. In three games the Cards only managed 13 runs and 21 hits, while committing 9 errors. BSU is now 21-14 overall and 7-5 in the conference. They play Xavier on Tuesday, Purdue on Wednesday, and a three-game weekend series against Western Michigan on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Danica Patrick won the IRL race in Japan this weekend. She can now shed the "Anna Kournikova of Racing" stigma. Good for her! I think the new IRL is going to be good for open wheel racing. More cars and more competition is usually a good thing. It will make the Indy 500 a better race when it comes around here in May.
I went to the Reds/Brewers game at Great American Ballpark on Friday night. The Brewers won 5-2, but it wasn't that close. The Brewers pitchers shut down the Reds for the first seven innings, then struggled to finish the game. The Reds had bases-loaded and no one out in the 8th inning, but could not get a run home. In the 9th, the Reds scored two runs and had the bases loaded with 2 outs, but Paul Bako struck out looking to end the game. Dad and I sat in the "All You Can Eat" seats. It was a pretty good deal. For $30, you get a seat in the Mezzanine section (a $22 seat) and all of the hot dogs, popcorn, peanuts, and coke that you can eat/drink. I definitely ate my $30 worth of food, making the seat virtually free. Plus, it was T-shirt night, so we got a shirt to go along with the good deal. The only thing that would make the day better was a Reds win.
