The Braves used a 6-run sixth inning to beat the Phillies 7-5. In that inning, Brian McCann had a 3-run double, Matt Diaz hit a two-run homer and Martin Prado hit his second solo home run of the game after leading off the first inning with a home run. Kris Medlen was solid on the mound and the bullpen pitched well, as usual. The win gave the Braves a 6 game lead over the Phillies in the NL East. The Reds beat the Mets, so the Braves lead New York by 3 games in the division.
The next four days close out the first half of the season and could be very important games for the NL East. The Braves play the Mets in a three-game series while the Phillies play 4 games against NL Central leading Cincinnati. The worst-case scenario after this weekend is that the Braves are tied with the Mets with the Phillies 2.5 games back. Best-case puts the Braves 6 games up on the entire division.
