Big innings and big hits lead Ball State to victory

The Ball State baseball team continued to play well in a 11-7 defeat of Miami-Ohio. Miami scored two in the second inning off of starter Cal Bowling, but BSU came back with 3 runs in the third on a Stephen Claypool homer to take the lead for good. The Cardinals added 6 runs in the 5th inning including a 2-run single by Kolbrin Vitek and a 3-run homer by Zach Dygert. Bowling pitched 7 innings and gave up 3 earned runs to get his first win of the season. Ball State is now 10-15 on the season and 4-1 in the MAC, tied with Toledo and Eastern Michigan for the MAC West lead. The team finishes the series with Miami this afternoon.

In softball, Ball State and Miami played a great game for 6 innings with Miami leading 1-0 at that point. In the seventh inning BSU ace Elizabeth Milian got into trouble by loading the bases. The next batter sent a ball up into the 21 MPH wind and cleared the fence for a grand slam giving the game a final score of 5-0. Milian struck out 8 in 7 innings of work. Her season ERA is now 0.98 and her record is 14-2. The Cardinal offense could only scatter 6 hits and really couldn't get much going at the plate. BSU is now 20-7 on the season and 0-1 in MAC play. They play Miami again today.
