Clutch hitting leads Ball State to win

Ball State hosted Buffalo on Friday in the first game of a three-game weekend series. BSU came out firing, as they got 2 runs in the first and 4 in the third to take a 6-1 lead after three innings. A five-run sixth inning made the score 11-1. The final score was 11-5. Perci Garner pitched well, as usual, giving up 1 unearned run in 6 innings while striking out 9. He is 5-0 on the season and leads the team with a 3.51 ERA. Zach Dygert had 4 RBI in the game. The entire offense hit well with runners on base, as only 3 of the 14 runners for BSU were left on base. The series continues today with Cal Bowling getting the start for BSU. The Cardinals are 15-18 overall and 8-2 in the MAC. They are a game behind Central Michigan in the MAC West division.

The Ball State softball team traveled to Buffalo for a double header and swept both games, 3-1 and 8-4. In game one, the Cardinals had the fortune of 2 unearned runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Buffalo tied the game with single runs in the 4th and 5th innings. Kate Wilczynski hit a solo home run in the top of the 7th to give Ball State the lead. BSU pitcher Elizabeth Milian held off the Buffalo attack in the seventh. Milian gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits and struck out 10.

Game two had a wild first inning as Ball State put 5 runs on the board and Buffalo scored 3. The game was calm until the sixth inning when Buffalo closed the gap to 5-4. Ball State came through in the seventh inning again with 3 runs to take an 8-4 lead. In the game, Kate Wilczynski homered and doubled and had 4 RBI. Amanda Carpenter also homered and had 3 RBI. Brownsburg baseball team off to hot start

The Brownsburg baseball team got off to a good start in their game at McCutcheon on Thursday, taking a 4-0 lead after two innings. They won the game 9-3. Justin Hartnagel hit a home run in the first inning, his 6th homer of the year. Cory Sears had a big two-run double in the second inning. Isaac Sampen got the start for the Dogs, but could only last 1-1/3 innings after giving up 3 earned runs. Ryan Rhodes pitched 5-2/3 scoreless innings in relief to get the win. The Dogs are now 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the HCC. They travel to Madison on Saturday to play both Madison and Silver Creek. Silver Creek is 7-3, Madison is 4-4.

In a game that wasn't very surprising, the Brownsburg softball team lost to #1 Center Grove 15-3. Center Grove got 4 runs in the first and 3 in the second to take a 7-0 lead after two innings. After 3 more runs by the Trojans, BBurg finally got on the board in the fourth inning. As was the case earlier in the week, the mental errors in the field by Brownsburg and the aggressiveness of the opponent led to the Bulldogs demise. After a week with 3 losses and being outscored 32-6, the Dogs will travel to Lawrence Central on Saturday for an invitational. Next week, it doesn't get any easier as the Dogs play Avon (5-0) on Tuesday and Hamilton SE (5-2) on Friday.

Brownsburg softball falls apart in the late innings

The Brownsburg softball team took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning on Tuesday night.....then the wheels fell off the wagon. A combination of mental and physical errors led to 4 runs in the sixth inning and 4 runs in the seventh in a 8-1 loss to Westfield. The Dogs are now 3-4 on the season and travel to Ben Davis tonight before hosting #1 Center Grove on Thursday.

The Brownsburg baseball team hosts McCutcheon tonight in the HCC opener. McCutcheon is 5-0 and ranked 10th in the latest poll. Brownsburg is 5-0 and tied for 15th in the polls.

As usual, the Ball State baseball team lost a game it should have won due to poor fielding. The Cardinals had 3 errors that led to 8 unearned runs in a 10-5 loss to Purdue. Kolbrin Vitek hit his 9th home run of the year and had 3 RBI in the game. Stephen Claypool and TJ Baumet had 3 hits each. The Cards host Indiana Tech today.

Brownsburg falls behind early, then mashes their way to victory over Ben Davis

Brownsburg starter Ryan Rhodes had a tough time on the mound, getting out of a jam in the first inning without allowing a run. However, he was not so lucky in the second inning, allowing 5 runs (1 earned). The Dogs were behind 5-3 after an inning and a half. From that point on, it was all Brownsburg. The Dogs hit 5 home runs and outscored Ben Davis 13-1 to get a 16-6 victory. Home runs were hit by Ben Blystone, Alex McGowan, Justin Hartnagel, David Oliger, and Tyler Hampton. Blystone had 4 hits, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Hartnagel had 4 RBI. Macklin Runyon got the win in relief. Ball State plays half a game in losing to Bowling Green

Ball State's baseball team took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth against Bowling Green on Sunday. However, the Falcons got 5 runs in the fifth off of starter Kolbrin Vitek, then added three runs in the sixth to win the game 9-3. The Cardinals only managed 4 hits and had 5 errors that led to 4 unearned runs. BSU is 13-17 overall and 7-2 in the MAC, one game behind Toledo and Central Michigan in the MAC West. They play Purdue on Tuesday, Indiana Tech on Wednesday, and host a three-game series with Buffalo this weekend.

The BSU softball team had a thrilling come-from-behind victory against Eastern Michigan yesterday. Ball State pitcher Elizabeth Milian got off to a slow start, giving up 3 runs in the first two innings, but got better as the game went on. The Cardinals were down 3-1 in the 6th when pinch-hitter Jen Moore tied the game with a 2-run double. Kristy Stratton drove in Moore with a single that led to the 4-3 victory. Atlanta Braves - The Braves are 3-2 so far this season, but should be 4-1 after Billy Wagner blew a save on Friday to the Giants. They are one game behind Philly in the NL East and tied for the NL wild card. Of course, there are 157 games to go...
