Clutch hitting leads Ball State to win

Ball State hosted Buffalo on Friday in the first game of a three-game weekend series. BSU came out firing, as they got 2 runs in the first and 4 in the third to take a 6-1 lead after three innings. A five-run sixth inning made the score 11-1. The final score was 11-5. Perci Garner pitched well, as usual, giving up 1 unearned run in 6 innings while striking out 9. He is 5-0 on the season and leads the team with a 3.51 ERA. Zach Dygert had 4 RBI in the game. The entire offense hit well with runners on base, as only 3 of the 14 runners for BSU were left on base. The series continues today with Cal Bowling getting the start for BSU. The Cardinals are 15-18 overall and 8-2 in the MAC. They are a game behind Central Michigan in the MAC West division.

The Ball State softball team traveled to Buffalo for a double header and swept both games, 3-1 and 8-4. In game one, the Cardinals had the fortune of 2 unearned runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Buffalo tied the game with single runs in the 4th and 5th innings. Kate Wilczynski hit a solo home run in the top of the 7th to give Ball State the lead. BSU pitcher Elizabeth Milian held off the Buffalo attack in the seventh. Milian gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits and struck out 10.

Game two had a wild first inning as Ball State put 5 runs on the board and Buffalo scored 3. The game was calm until the sixth inning when Buffalo closed the gap to 5-4. Ball State came through in the seventh inning again with 3 runs to take an 8-4 lead. In the game, Kate Wilczynski homered and doubled and had 4 RBI. Amanda Carpenter also homered and had 3 RBI. Audra Sanders got the win, pitching 5 innings and giving up 4 earned runs. Elizabeth Milian pitched the final two innings for the save. The Cardinals are now 28-9 overall and 6-2 in the MAC. They travel to Kent State for single games on Saturday and Sunday in a battle of MAC division leaders.
