Brownsburg has a busy 24 hours

The Brownsburg boys basketball team hosts two games in an 18-hour period this weekend. Tonight, they host Hamilton Southeastern at 730p. HSE is tied for the conference lead with a 3-1 HCC record and is 9-2 overall. BBurg is 0-3 in the HCC and 3-8 overall. According to the Sagarin ratings, HSE is an 18-point favorite. On Saturday afternoon, the Dogs will host Manual at 130p. The game was moved up in the day so everyone can watch the Colts get beat on Saturday night. Manual is 2-7 with their wins coming against Decatur Central by 2 (BBurg beat DC by 16) and 1A Crispus Attucks. Sagarin has BBurg as a 5-point favorite.

How about a little bit of baseball news?

Sportswriter John Sickels has released his top-20 prospects in each organization. The Brownsburg connections are ranked as follows:

Lance Lynn - 3rd in Cardinals organization - "Projects as an inning-eater number three starter type. K/BB in the Texas League wasn't great, could use some Triple-A time"

Drew Storen - 3rd in Nationals organization - "Has put aside concerns about being an overdraft. Could help in pen very soon, future closer if all works out."

Tucker Barnhart - Honorable mention in Reds organization

The Atlanta Braves signed Melky Cabrera to a 1-year $3.1 million contract to avoid arbitration.

Brownsburg girls basketball puts up best offense effort of the season

The Lady Bulldogs pulled off a minor upset on the road last night, scoring the most points in a game this season and beating McCutcheon 63-56. After taking a 29-28 lead at the half, the Dogs stormed to a 50-36 lead at the end of 3 quarters. McCutcheon came clawing back, but could not get over the hump. This is only the second victory for the Bulldogs over McCutcheon in the last 5 years. Four players scored in double figures for BBurg, led by Lindsey Dall with 14 points. Dall has played well lately. Over her last 6 games, she has averaged 10 points per game. In the previous 10 games, she was scoring 5 points per game. Other Bulldogs in double figures on Wednesday were Erika Lesch and Stephanie Mavunga with 12 points and Ryne Carr with 11. This victory leaves the Dogs a game out of first place in the HCC behind undefeated Westfield. BBurg is tied with Lafayette Jeff in second place with one conference loss.

The Lady Bulldogs are off this weekend, but have a tough week ahead. They go to Avon on Monday for a reshceduled game, then host Zionsville on Wednesday, and Westfield on Saturday. The Saturday game could decide the conference title.

Brownsburg girls basketball needs a win tonight

The Brownsburg girls basketball team travels to McCutcheon tonight in a battle of 11-4 teams. BBurg needs this win to stay in the race for the Hoosier Crossroads Conference title. According to the Sagarin Ratings, McCutcheon is a 5 point favorite. McCutcheon has played a slightly tougher schedule and has a better margin of victory. This game will be a mirror of last Saturday's game against Lafayette Jeff in that it will be a physical game, but most likely a little lower scoring. If the Dogs can score 53 points, they have a good chance at winning this game. However, in the last 5 years they were only able to break that mark once against the Mavericks.

Ugly weekend for Brownsburg

After their trouncing by Danville on Friday night, the Brownsburg boys basketball team struggled against Plainfield on Saturday night. Earlier in the year, the Dogs beat Plainfield by 18 points, but this time Tyler Whetstone hit a shot with just a few seconds left to beat the Quakers 54-52. Jacob Eldridge led the Dogs with 16 points while Kurtis Runyon had 11 and Whetstone scored 10. BBurg hit 9 three-pointers in the game. The team hosts HSE on Friday and Manual on Saturday. The game against Manual has been moved to 130p due to the Colts playoff game that night.

Like I said in my previous post, the girls basketball team needed to get to 52 points to have a chance against Lafayette Jeff. They only got 49 as they lost 56-49. It was a physical game, as it usually is between these two teams. There were 47 free throws in the game. Jeff took a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, then came out with a 13-0 run to start the second quarter and take a 26-11 lead. The Dogs fought back to cut the lead to 4 at the half and even led in the second half before Jeff pulled away at the end. The Bulldogs were led by Ryne Carr with 13 points and Erica Lesch with 11. Lindsey Dall had 9 points and 9 rebounds. BBurg only has one game this week and that game is at McCutcheon on Wednesday.
