The Brownsburg boys basketball team faced a tough foe in 3A #2 Danville last night. BBurg does not have a player taller than 6-foot-5 and was facing Purdue recruit and 6-foot-10 center Travis Carroll. Our defense subdued Carroll, double teaming him most of the time and holding him to 10 points, but I was really impressed with the other players on the Danville team. They hit their open shots and played some stifling defense. Jordan Weidner scored 23 points for the Warriors and Michael Humphrey scored 13. The Dogs were led by Torrey Nibbs' 16 points. Jacob Eldridge added 11. BBurg will face Plainfield in the third-place game of the Hendricks County tourney tonight. Plainfield is one of BBurg's two wins this year, so we may be able to get another elusive victory this season. Game time is approx 645p.
The Brownsburg girls basketball team hosts Lafayette Jeff this afternoon at 130p. According to the Sagarin Ratings, the Dogs are a 7 point favorite. However, Jeff is 4-1 against the Dogs over the last 5 years. These games are usually pretty physical and hard-fought. With the exception of last year's game, the previous 4 meetings were decided by 5 points or less. If Brownsburg can get to 52 points, I think they can pull this one off.

Braves sign Hinske and a big basketball weekend....maybe.
The Braves added to their roster by signing Eric Hinske to a one-year deal pending a physical. He would spot-start at the four corner positions and be a left-handed pinch hitter. Hinske is a league average player, as his career OPS+ is 100. He is a decent fielder in the outfield and at first base, but has a little trouble playing the hot corner. Hopefully, Chipper will be healthy enough that Hinske will not have to play much at third.
The snow is falling here, and that may put a damper on a big weekend of Brownsburg basketball. The girls team travels to Avon tonight and is a 13 point favorite. The boys team starts the Hendricks County tourney on Friday against Danville. The boys 17 point underdogs in this game. Danville is 8-0 while BBurg is 2-7. On Saturday, the girls host Lafayette Jeff in the afternoon and the boys team will play in either the championship game or the consolation in the county tourney. Of course, this all depends on the weather....

New singings everywhere!!!
Both the Braves and the Redskins signed new people yesterday. However, neither one was a surprise. The Braves signed Troy Glaus to a $1.75 million one-year contract with $2.25 million in incentive bonuses. He would make $250,000 if he is on the active 25-man roster for 100 days, $350,000 each for 400, 450 and 500 plate appearances, $400,000 for 550 and $550,000 for 600. The Braves would use him at first base.
The Redskins hired Mike Shanahan as their new head coach and vice president of football operations. The contract is for 5 years and is worth about $7 million per year. His son, former Texans offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, will be the new offensive coordinator in Washington. Mike Shanahan will have the final decision on football decisions for the Skins, which is a good thing considering how poorly non-coach Vinny Cerrato ran things over the past few years.

Redskins starters can't stop Chargers backups or stop Zorn from getting fired
The Washington Redskins were down 13-0 when the Chargers took their starters out in the second quarter. The offense got in gear against what was left of the San Diego defense and scored 17 straight points to take a 17-13 lead. However, they could only manage one more field goal on offense while allowing a field goal and a touchdown in the 4th quarter to lose the game 23-20. QB Jason Campbell had a decent game, throwing for 281 yards and two touchdowns. Malcolm Kelly caught 5 passes for 109 yards, including an 84 yarder in the second quarter. Santana Moss and Fred Davis each had 6 catches, but neither had over 60 yards receiving. The running game was atrocious as Quinton Ganther and Marcus Mason combined for 53 yards on 18 carries.
The only way to right the ship is to start fresh and the Skins have started down that path with the firing of head coach Jim Zorn. As I said in yesterday's post, it's not all his fault but you can't fire the owner or all of the players. Rumors are that Mike Shanahan could be the next coach. We will see what happens over the next few months. At least this season is over so I don't have to watch the crapfest anymore......

Brownsburg wins again!
The Brownsburg girls basketball team won their 6th straight game as they defeated University yesterday afternoon 52-39. Ryne Carr scored 18 to lead the team on 6-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-7 from three point land. Stephanie Mavunga scored 12 points, corralled 6 rebounds and stuffed 7 blocked shots. Point guard Morgan Miller dished out 6 assists and had 6 rebounds. Katie Reinhart led the team with 7 rebounds. Even though the game was low scoring, it was not a very good defensive showing by either team. Each team had an estimated 37 possessions and both teams scored more than a point per possession. The Dogs go to Avon on Thursday for a 730p game.
The Washington Redskins end their season today against a San Diego Chargers team that will most likely rest their starters. This will probably be the last game for Skins coach Jim Zorn. While a lot of this turmoil is not his fault, you can't fire the owner or all of the players so you have to fire the coach. There was some good news for Skins fans as rookie Brian Orakpo was named to the Pro Bowl. As usual, London Fletcher was not selected despite being second in the NFL in tackles. Fletcher is a first alternate behind the Saints Jonathan Vilma and the 49ers Patrick Willis. If either decides not to play or if the Saints make the Super Bowl, Fletcher would play in his first Pro Bowl. Game time is 415p today.
