Both the Braves and the Redskins signed new people yesterday. However, neither one was a surprise. The Braves signed Troy Glaus to a $1.75 million one-year contract with $2.25 million in incentive bonuses. He would make $250,000 if he is on the active 25-man roster for 100 days, $350,000 each for 400, 450 and 500 plate appearances, $400,000 for 550 and $550,000 for 600. The Braves would use him at first base.
The Redskins hired Mike Shanahan as their new head coach and vice president of football operations. The contract is for 5 years and is worth about $7 million per year. His son, former Texans offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, will be the new offensive coordinator in Washington. Mike Shanahan will have the final decision on football decisions for the Skins, which is a good thing considering how poorly non-coach Vinny Cerrato ran things over the past few years.
