BSU softball wins, baseball loses

The Ball State softball team continued their winning ways in a 6-5 defeat of Western Michigan. Jessie Ware was 4-for-4 with 4 runs scored for the Cardinals and was 14-for-18 with 3 doubles, 3 triples, and a home run over the four games this weekend. Elizabeth Milian gave up 5 runs, all on the four homers that Western Michigan hit. Milian is 26-5 this season. The Cards are 36-13 overall and 14-4 in the MAC. They are 3 games ahead of Central Michigan and Northern Illinois with 4 games left to play. BSU will host Akron for a double header on Friday and single games against Ohio on Saturday and Sunday.

The Ball State baseball team could not hit the ball in a 10-5 loss against Eastern Michigan. The Cardinals managed 4 hits, but used 6 walks and 3 EMU errors to get the runs on the board. Kolbrin Vitek started for BSU, but could not get out of the sixth inning, pitching 5-1/3 innings and giving up 5 earned runs. Derek Grabner pitched 2-2/3 innings of shutout ball in relief of Vitek to keep the score close at 7-5 after 8 innings. Eastern got 3 runs in the top of the ninth against Cardinal pitcher Aaron Hammons to put the game away. The Cards are 22-22 overall and 13-5 in the MAC. They are tied with Toledo for the lead in the MAC West. BSU travels to Western Michigan next weekend for a three-game series starting Friday.
