BSU's 2010 schedule has some highs and lows

Ball State's football opponents for 2010 have been released, but before we talk about that there are still some games left in the 2009 season. BSU hosts Central Michigan tomorrow night at 6pm. The game will be televised on ESPN2. The Cardinals are a 17 point underdog against a very good 8-2 Chippewas team. The only weaknesses in CMU are on the passing side. They are 6th in the MAC in passing offense, if you can call that a weakness. The CMU pass defense in ranked 10th in the conference. Of course, it's going to be hard to exploit that when BSU's own passing offense is 12th in the conference. However, I will be at the game in the cold and rain having a much different feeling than the final home game last year when we were going for a MAC West title and a 12-0 season.

The 2010 schedule will open on Thursday September 2 at home against Southeast Missouri State. The Cards will host Liberty on September 11th. These two teams are both Division 1-AA schools. Now that is the "easy" part of the schedule. The next two Saturdays BSU travels to Big 10 opponents Purdue on the 18th and Iowa on the 25th. If Purdue has the same team as this year, that could be a decent game for a while. However, the Iowa game could get ugly.
