The Braves lost to the Phillies last night 5-3. Once again, Atlanta started a rookie pitcher while the Phillies adjusted their rotation so that their 3 aces would pitch in this series. I know the pitching staff is hurting, but this series was important and the Braves are throwing rookies out on the mound! Game 3 of the series is tonight at 705pm. Tommy Hanson (who is not a rookie!) will face Roy Oswalt.
Atlanta is now 5 games behind the Phillies in the NL East and only one game ahead of San Diego in the wild card race. San Diego is at LA tonight on ESPN.
Omar Infante was 1-for-4 to lower his batting average to .333 with a qualifying average of .326 because he does not have enough plate appearances to qualify. He should get enough PAs by the next-to-last game of the season, although it may not matter if he doesn't get the bat going. Carlos Gonzalez leads the NL in hitting with a .339 average after going 1-for-4 last night. Infante still needs 19 hits over the next 11 games to have a chance at the batting title.
