The Braves lost another one-run game yesterday afternoon, losing to the Nationals 3-2. The Braves are now 0-9 in one-run games this year. It's not hard to believe that it was the bullpen's fault AGAIN!!! Reliever Manny Acosta's error in the 12th inning loaded the bases and he and Buddy Carlyle couldn't stop Washington from scoring. The bullpen gave up 2 runs in 4 innings, ruining a great start by Jair Jurrjens (7 IP, 1 ER, 2 Hits). Mark Kotsay had 3 hits, while Yunel Escobar and Mark Teixeira each had 2 hits. The team has the day off today and will host the Reds this weekend for a three-game series.
The Brownsburg Bulldogs beat rival Avon last night 12-4. Mitch Jankowski got the win, pitching 4 innings and striking out 6. Matt Duncan pitched the final three innings for the Dogs. The offense was led by Mark Conover (3 hits, 2B, HR, 4 R), Joel Stucker (3 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), and Jared Catron (3 hits, 2 2B). Avon did not help their cause by making 3 errors in the field, poor execution on 2 sac bunts (while the game was still close), 3 caught stealing, and a run given up trying to throw out a runner on a dropped third strike. The teams play again tonight at Brownsburg. It is Little League Night also, so it may be a little crowded. Brownsburg is now 14-2 and 7-2 in the conference. Avon is 14-4, 7-2 in the conference.
