The Brownsburg girls basketball team lost to McCutcheon last night 59-52. Brownsburg had a rough start to the game. McCutcheon led 17-10 late in the first quarter, but a 7-0 run tied the game at 17 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter was much worse as the Dogs were outscored 17-4 and took a 34-21 deficit to the locker room.
The third quarter was the exact opposite of the second quarter as BBurg held McCutcheon to 0-of-10 from the floor in a 19-1 quarter. BBurg led 40-35 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, McCutcheon's top scorer and Indiana State recruit Jessica Valley hit 4 three-pointers and scored 17 of her 26 points in a late surge that led McCutcheon to the win. The Mavs were 7-of-10 in the quarter and hit 5 three-pointers. Valley ended up with 26, Amanda Neill 14, and Lakan Hasser-Smith scored 9 for the Mavs. Brownsburg was led by Stephanie Mavunga with 16 points. Erica Lesch scored 12, Ryne Carr 8, and Morgan Miller 7.
McCutcheon goes to 15-0 overall and 8-0 in the conference. They play Westfield on the 29th. Westfield is 5-1 in the conference with Fishers, Brownsburg, and McCutcheon remaining. If Westfield can beat Fishers and Brownsburg, the game against McCutcheon on the 29th will be for the HCC title.
Brownsburg falls to 14-3 overall. Their three losses are to teams that have a 41-4 combined record. The Bulldogs play their next three games on the road: at Zionsville Jan 19th, at Westfield Jan 22, and at Beech Grove on Jan 26.
