The Brownsburg girls basketball team lost to Hamilton SE last night 53-52. The Bulldogs came out strong, leading 17-11 after the first quarter. However, the next 20 minutes of basketball was not very good. The Dogs leading scorer and rebounder Stephanie Mavunga was in foul trouble most of the game, having to sit most of the second quarter and eventually fouling out with 4 minutes left in the game. The team was held to two points in the second quarter, and were down 11 points in the third quarter.
However, the Dogs came storming back to take a 52-51 lead late in the game. A Royals basket followed by two HSE missed free throws gave the Dogs a chance to win. But, Southeastern's center Taya Reimer blocked two Bulldog shots as time expired to seal the victory. Mavunga led all scorers with 19 points. Reimer and Jessica Stewart led the balanced HSE attack with 13 points each.
The loss drops BBurg to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. HSE is 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference, giving them the early lead in the HCC. Brownsburg faces Danville on Friday night in what should be a relatively easy game. Danville is 1-4 and has lost to Avon by 17 and Plainfield by 58 (yes, 58, 71 to 13).
