Ball State's bullpen ruins the day
The Ball State baseball team led 4-1 after 5 innings behind a strong pitching performance from do-it-all star Kolbrin Vitek, but the bullpen could not hold the lead and the Cardinals fell to UAB 6-5. Vitek pitched 5 innings, giving up one earned run, however, the bullpen gave up 4 earned runs with 4 hits and 8 walks in 3 innings of work. Vitek tried to bring the Cardinals back on offense by hitting a home run in the top of the ninth to bring BSU to within one, but no one else could produce any offense in the ultimate inning. Ball State drops to 2-5 on the season. The team travels to Coastal Carolina for a two-week long invitational where they will play 9 games in 10 days starting on Friday. Ball State's opponents in the invitational include #19 Coastal Carolina (7-1), which BSU plays twice, Pittsburgh (5-1), College of Charleston (6-1), and Lipscomb (6-0).
