Rain, rain, go away

The Braves were rained out last night. The game will be made up today starting at 110p. Charlie Morton will face Jason Marquis. In the second game, Jorge Campillo will face Rich Harden. Game two will start at 710p.

Micheal Phelps secured his 5th gold medal of these Olympic games and 11th overall to make him the most decorated swimmer of all-time and the athlete with the most gold medals in any sport.

The US women's gymnastics team had a tough time last night, finishing second to the Chinese pre-school team, um, I mean their Olympic team. While all of the press is talking about Alicia Sacramone's two falls, I think they were tense from the start. They were down 1.125 through two rotations and I thought they needed to be closer than that at that point. The Chinese fell off the beam to allow the US a chance, but Sacramone's fall on her entry onto the beam and Nastia Liukin's balance troubles gave that margin right back to China. After the third rotation, the US was still down a full point, which meant they had to hit everything perfectly....and they didn't. Sacramone fell early in her floor exercise routine and Liukin and Shawn Johnson both stepped out of bounds. That left China with three victory routines on the floor, and they executed perfectly. China won by 2.3 points, so the two falls and the two step-outs didn't matter as those only total 1.8 points deducted. It's a little depressing, but a silver medal is pretty damn good if you ask me.
