"Year One" for Brownsburg Boys Basketball?

The boys basketball season starts tonight when the Brownsburg Bulldogs travel to Carmel to face the Greyhounds. The BBurg team will look very different from the team that went 5-16 a year ago. The team lost 88% of the points, 82% of the rebounds, and 72% of the assists from last year's squad. The losses were through graduation and the non-return of two major contributors to the team (Torrey Nibbs and Tyler Whetstone).

But, that doesn't mean that it is all bad news for the Dogs. Three freshmen will get a lot of playing time and help to rebuild a program that is only three years removed from a state championship. The top freshman is Jaraan Lands, a 6-4 220 pound forward that has already recieved an offer from IU coach Tom Crean. The other two freshmen are 6-6 Kyle Thompson and 5-8 guard Xavier Ringo. The top returning scorers are senior Scott Hathaway (2 ppg, 1 rpg), junior Micah Whetstone (1 ppg, 1 rpg), and sophomore Chase Dutra (1 ppg, 1 rpg, 1 apg).

With only one senior on the roster, this team could be building for a great run over the next few years. This season may be ugly, but just as the girls basketball team did over the past three years, this team may have to take its lumps before it can bring Bulldog basketball back to relevance.

Good commentary. It will be interesting to see how all of this pans out. Will the fans stay away from this work in progress or watch it's hopefull construction for the future? Lots of pressure for a team this young based on the type of schedule BHS has.
